I am coming up on my 9th year working at the behavioral school Sweetser in Saco. I graduated from the University of New England with a degree in Psychology and minor in Art. I started Common Roots as an artists collective in 2012 with a few friends in Biddeford, ME above Elements coffee shop and what used to be Engine art gallery.
Recently I traveled across our diverse nation with some friends in a Fed Ex truck we converted into a sustainable home. We made connections with environmental groups and learned about the sustainability movement. Following this eye opening tour, I returned inspired. Since then I have developed Sweetser’s first art program in over 7 years. I currently live in Hollis and work through private commissions that help keep Common Roots alive!
Pat Sylvia has been teaching guitar since 2006 after earning a degree in Music Performance. Pat is available for individual and group lessons for guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, and beginner piano. He plays in several bands across Maine, including All Soul'd Out, The Galley Rats, and Soul Taco, as well as solo acoustic and classical guitar.
I am heavily influenced by my Lithuanian roots, Maine, nature and the supernatural. I believe nature is magic and holds everything we need as well as way more than we want. When I paint, I look for the connection between the divine and the physical. I use painting to explore all possibilities and heal. Acrylic is my primary medium, however, I enjoy playing with other forms as well. In this busy culture, driven by achievements and money, I use painting to slow down and remind myself that I am part of nature and one with everything. With no formal training, art has always been therapeutic and necessary for my well-being.

Her work is a reflection of the idea that embracing uncertainty and constant change is a cornerstone of being able to live life to its fullest. Rebecca graduated in 2015 with her degree in psychology and has a passion for connecting with at risk youth. Her art is a way of observing and expressing the internal mechanisms of the inner psyche.

I was born and raised in Rhode Island but fell in love with Maine when I attended Maine College of Art, from which I received my Bachelor's in Sculpture. Here, I was able to immerse myself in the art world and explored how art can really help change and shape a person. I decided to continue school and attended the University of New England where I received my Master's in Social Work. My goal is to help others to use creative expression as a tool to release emotions and explore who they are. My work is focused on this. I like to explore the quirky and fun, the grotesque and the beautiful, and ways to express and emote feelings without the use of words.
